Messages and Broadcasts
RealmConquest has three main communication surfaces: private direct messages, alliance mail, and public ticker broadcasts. They serve different purposes, and each has its own limits so communication stays useful during active wars.
Direct messages
Direct messages are realm-scoped private mail between two realm players. You can send by realm player id, colony id, or exact display name. Messages support subjects, bodies, replies, thread roots, inbox and outbox views, archive state, read state, and deleting your own mailbox view.
The current limits are 120 characters for the subject and 5,000 characters for the body. A message must have exactly one recipient selector.
Alliance messages
An alliance message sends one subject and body to your current alliance peers as direct mail. It uses the same subject and body limits as direct messages. Recipients are resolved from current same-realm alliance membership at send time.
Ignores are respected. If any current recipient has ignored the sender, the alliance message is blocked instead of bypassing that player's ignore setting.
Contacts and ignores
Contacts and ignores are private player lists in a realm. Contacts are convenience bookmarks for people you want to find again. Ignores block new direct messages from the ignored player and hide authored communication surfaces for you where the interface supports it. The ignored player is not told they were ignored.
Like direct messages, contact and ignore targets can be selected by realm player id, colony id, or display name.
Public ticker broadcasts
Ticker broadcasts are public realm messages shown in the game shell. A player can have one active broadcast at a time. Posting or replacing it costs 1 Energy, lasts 24 ticks, and accepts up to 280 characters. Deleting your own broadcast is allowed, but there is no Energy refund.
Admin command messages can appear in the ticker and are pinned before player broadcasts. Player ticker rows can include a locate affordance for the sender's colony; admin rows do not expose a colony location.
Reports and send limits
Direct messages and ticker messages can be reported. Report notes are redacted from public receipts, and duplicate/report availability rules are handled by the moderation system.
Classic 0.5 communication send limits use a 1 tick window:
| Channel | Limit per tick |
|---|---|
| Direct messages | 10 |
| Ticker broadcasts | 1 |
| Reports | 5 |
Alliance messages use the direct-message send channel, so they count against the direct-message limit.
